Detecting high-dimensional entanglement with adaptive Bell tests

August 2026 🔬: Entanglement can be hiding in plain sight. If the measurement settings are poorly aligned, even an entangled state can keep its secrets. Our new preprint explores how a Bell test can help find the right settings without first reconstructing the whole quantum state.

Bell-test values versus optimisation steps for simulated systems with 2, 4, 6 and 8 dimensions.
Adaptive Bell-test results for simulated systems with 2, 4, 6 and 8 dimensions.

Each Bell-test result steers the next adjustment. In simulations, the method revealed high-dimensional entanglement in the state families tested from two to eight dimensions, with fresh data providing an independent check at the end.
